From small beginnings two decades ago, John has established himself as one of the very best New Zealand-based trainers. Early successes in this country led to relocation to Malaysia, where he quickly adapted his skills to head the trainers’ premiership. 

A lifestyle decision for his young family saw a return to New Zealand several years ago and in no time, from a new base at the country’s leading training centre, Matamata, he was back amongst the feature race action. 

Over subsequent years John has been consistently in the top 10 of his profession’s standings, his success led by horses of the calibre of Group One performers Shastri, Bhandara, Everswindell, Young Centaur, Red Ruler and Il Quello Veloce. 

Syndication and partnership racing has become a signature of the Ladbrook Park formula, as exemplified by the enthusiastic group of owners behind New Zealand Cup winner Everswindell and champion two-year-old Il Quello Veloce.
